Did You Know?
Passwords
Passwords… We all need them, for our computers, for email, and for buying stuff on-line. Choosing passwords is a whole ‘nother story. A good password should be strong, yet easy to remember. Sometimes it seems that those two can be mutually exclusive.A strong password should not be a dictionary word or a common name. It should include capitals, lower case, numbers and even punctuation marks. Unfortunately, all that makes it hard to remember. One trick is to think of a memorable phase. Then you could use the first letter of each word, mixing the caps and lower case. So “Give me liberty or Give me death” would be your mnemonic for GmloGmd as a password. Or use a phrase that includes a word that is a homophone for a number (2 for too, two, to; 4 for for, fore, 8 for ate, etc), and use the number in the password in place of the word.
In any case, no matter how clever you are, it’s wise to make sure your password is not too rude or offensive. You never know when you’ll have to give it up to your boss, your IT people, or us when we need to work on your machine.
