Did You Know?
Cell Phone Tricks
Cell Phone TricksCell phones are pretty cool and useful tools these days. Here are a few of my favorite little-known tricks.
Send SMS messages from your computer to any cell phone with sites like http://smseverywhere.com/send.htm or http://gizmosms.com/ . This is handy and easy on your thumbs if you are sitting at your computer (and it saves on your cell plan’s text message count, too).
Use your carrier’s website (Verizon’s is www.vtext.com), to send scheduled messages. As a registered user, you can enter messages to yourself or other subscribers and schedule them to be sent in the future. Use it to remind yourself about appointments, pre-send birthday greetings, or send yourself a message to get out of a meeting. J
Most current phone models include a calendar function you can use to set reminders. A friend of mine uses hers to remind her when it’s time to take her prescriptions.
If you have your own web site, make a cell sized web page for it. I made one for SLOweather (wx.sloweather.com.pda/htm). You can also make your own cell-sized web page and use it as your personal cell-phone web portal. It’s easier to add oft-used links to the portal page than to enter them on your phone’s Favorites page.
