Did You Know?
E-card and program born viruses and trojans
Lately, we’ve seen a spate of e-cards and other emails which are not what they seem.If you receive a card that you believe is questionable, there are a few clues that might confirm your suspicions. Most, if not all legitimate e-card emails will tell you in the subject line who the card is from. The bad ones may just say “a friend” has sent you an e-card. Another clue is that the links that you are asked to click on to receive the card does not contain their URL. Rather, it might be a numeric address. Obviously, don’t open any e-card that you have any doubts about.
Also, recently, we received several emails about a 40% off sale on a product called “Media Cool”, including a free demo download. This also appears to be a way to entice you to download a questionable program with a fairly well-hidden virus inside one of the included files, as well as a stock scam pdf. This is an interesting scam, as the perpetrator doesn’t seem to have a web site, but includes a Google search link to point you to his download.
If you’ve clicked on or downloaded anything questionable or your computer seems to be running slowly or strange, we can help you get it cleaned up. Just ask for a “tune-up”.
